Adoption Program

Also Known as "Hannah's House"

The Adoption Program “Hannah’s House” was created in June of 1995 in order to provide women choosing adoption a safe and secure environment.  Originally, women choosing to parent their infants lived in the same facility as women choosing to place their babies for adoption.  In 1998, we moved the Adoption Program into a new facility built for us by HomeAid, which was right next door to the main Parenting facility.  We learned from our adoptive birth mothers that living with, or even next door to women choosing to parent their babies intensified their feelings of grief and separation.  They expressed that this made the adoption process “even more difficult than it already is.”  The decision was made to find a new location for the Hannah’s House, and in October of 2003, we opened the doors to a new 1400 square foot home located just 1.5 miles away in Orange.  Since opening, Hannah’s House has been home to more than 158 women, 108 of whom have placed their babies into loving homes.

Hannah’s House offers a “communal living environment” that accommodates six women at a time.  A safe and supportive home is provided for up to two months following the birth, ensuring the birth mother has time to safely process the grief that arises during the adoption process.  The program provides expectant mothers with: career and education guidance, perinatal healthcare, individual and group counseling, referrals to adoption service providers and twice-weekly life skills classes.

Unlike any other maternity home in Southern California, Hannah’s House addresses the unique physical and emotional needs of women planning to place their babies for adoption, without pressure to place through a specific agency.  Hannah’s House provides a viable alternative for homeless, single, pregnant women who have no one to turn to and no where to go.
