Taylor Shares Her Story...

Ever since I could remember I wanted to be a “mom.”  When I found out I was pregnant, I was excited, but at the same time I was only 18 years old and just got out of high school.   I was alone and scared, and I just ended my 2 ½ year relationship with the father of the baby.  I knew I was not financially stable to care for a baby on my own.  Right from the start abortion was out of the question; my parents then started talking to me about adoption. After months of contemplating, I chose open adoption and found a wonderful family to care for my son.   Although I had great support from my friends and family, I couldn’t deal with the hole in my heart and the pain that giving up my son brought. Soon after I was drinking more and using drugs to try and numb the pain.

After turning to alcohol and drugs, I found myself living in a house full of drug addicts, with a man that mentally abused me.   My family was always there to support me but I rarely spoke or saw them anymore because drugs took over my life.  My self-esteem was the lowest it has ever been and I did not care about anything in my life expect when I was going to get my next drug fix.  After living in the house for two years, I found my self in a similar situation, I was pregnant.  I knew that God had given me a second chance.  I immediately stopped using drugs and started looking for a safe and healthy place for me to live with my child. I found out about Casa Teresa from a friend and instantly knew that was the place for me.

Almost two years later, I am still living at Casa Teresa, in the third and last step.  I am currently living in Transition II.  Since I have been a resident, I have had great opportunities and many great accomplishments.   I gave birth to my pride and joy, Ayden, on June 20, 2007.  I received my High School diploma, and soon after went to school for a certificate as a medical front office administrative assistant.   I graduated in September 2008, with the second highest grade in the class, for which I received the Salutatorian award.  I am currently working as the Administrative Assistant.

I have to thank Casa Teresa for all the support and love they give us Moms, and the classes they provide to us get back on our feet and gain confidence for the future. Without Casa Teresa, I wouldn’t be the confident single mom that I am today, and my son wouldn’t be the happy, healthy boy that he is today.
