♥ Do you have special or unique skills?
♥ Do you have experience with special events? Casa Teresa has a few annual fundraising events that we need your help to carry out successfully! Whether your gift is in welcoming people at a check-in table, registering guests, soliciting silent auction donation items, picking up balloons, or creating floral centerpieces, we would love to have you sign up to be a part of our next event. Each of our events is a crucial part of spreading the word about what we do in the community.
♥ Can you teach a class? Do you have a flair for cooking or nutrition; crafts or other hobbies? Do you have great computer skills that you want to share? Do you consider yourself a wiz at resumes? If so, we would love to work with you to create a new life skills class that can benefit our moms. We have ongoing classes including: personal finance, parenting, goal setting, domestic violence identification and prevention, self-esteem, career planning, job seeking and job retention—all taught by various agencies and individuals throughout the community.
♥ Do you love the holidays? Are you one of the neighbors on your street who is first to put up Christmas lights? Do you bring out holiday décor for each of the holidays—even minor ones? If so, you may be just the person to plan a holiday party during the year for our residents! Periodically, we bring in different groups who like to give our moms and babies small parties or showers, to get into the spirit of the season, and to make this “home with a heart” feel a little more home-y during the changes throughout the year. We usually plan “week of” events rather than the day of the holiday—after all, you need time for your home and family too!
♥ Do you love babies? Whether you are a teen who loves to hold the little ones, or if you wish your children or grandchildren never outgrew their diapers, we have ongoing needs for help with providing childcare for our moms who have already given birth. We have opportunities in the evening during some of our life skills classes, and at our newly opening Infant Childcare Center in partnership with the First Presbyterian Church of Orange.
♥ Are you a bargain shopper? We accept donations of new or gently used clothing and other items that we sell both to the community and our residents. We need your help to sort and sell quality clothing to the community. Casa Teresa also runs a clothing booth once a week on the Chapman University campus. So if you have a real knack for fashion or sales, this may be perfect for you!"
♥ Do you like helping out behind the scenes? From time to time, our Office Staff and House Mothers have a need for help with behind-the-scenes assistance. Whether it’s helping prepare a room for an incoming resident, inventorying and sorting donations so our residents can use them, or just being a friend to a mother and baby while they are waiting in the lobby to talk to a Casa Teresa staff member, we need your help in order to provide extra loving care to all our residents throughout the details of the day. Requirements: flexible personality, a loving heart, and a desire to help out informally where needed.
♥ Are you good at building one-on-one relationships? In partnership with the Junior League of Orange County, we are piloting a Mentoring Program with our moms for the first time this year. We need people who are willing to be role models for our young moms to build supportive, encouraging friendships with our new moms. < /p>
♥ Do you have special or unique skills? Are you part of a singing group? Do you know how to draw and paint? Do have a special talent for making jewelry? If you have skills that you feel may benefit our moms in some way—whether by teaching a” life skill” or building self-esteem—we want to hear about it!
